We’ll commercialise research works by varsities –Ministry

The Federal Ministry of Science and Technology is to assist Nigerian universities in the area of engineering and technological innovations.

The Minister of State for Science and Technology, Mohammed Abdullahi, disclosed this when the management of Nasarawa State University paid him a working visit in his office on Thursday.

Abdullahi noted that research efforts by the ministry would no longer be put on the shelf but would be patented and commercialised so as to boost the country’s economy.

He added that the desire of the ministry to partner the universities was informed by the need to stem unemployment among the youths.

“We want to ensure that all trades, all lines of profession are adequately supported, so that a lot of benefits can be harvested for the nation, in order to have multiple advantage of knowledge and valuable employment of our teeming youths,” he said.

The Vice-Chancellor of the university, Prof. Suleiman Mohammed, told the minister that the university was striving to ensure that information and communication technology drove learning and teaching, while ensuring good ethical conduct among the academia, workers and students in the community.
