LASU Helps Its Students To Be All-Round Best, Says Fagbohun

Story Highlights
  • “For those of you who may choose to violate these rules, rest assured that the full weight of the law will be brought to bear on you and you may have to graduate before your time. So don’t join any group whose influence may cut short your dreams,”
Professor ‘Lanre Fagbohun SAN, the Vice-Chancellor, Lagos State University (LASU), has declared the institution as one that helps its students to achieve nothing short of the best of all legitimate dreams they might want to pursue in life.
He made the declaration at his welcome address to the fresh students of the varsity at its 2018/2019 matriculation during the week.
According to the VC, LASU is not just another university that produces graduates for the sake of it but rather a university that nurtures its students from matriculation till graduation, ensuring they come out not only academically excellent but also grounded in all areas such that even in their extra-curricular activities, they are nothing but the best among competitors.
He cited examples of two students of the institution who are currently rating on distinction aggregates in their academics even as they are also lifting high the name of LASU in local and international social, intellectual and sporting completions.
Particular mention was made of Shotunde Oladimeji, a 400-level student of the Department of Business Administration who is already on 4.94 CGPA and the Founder of Excel Minds Academic Group doubling as Fellow of the United Nations Academic Impact Millennium Fellowship.
The Senior Advocate of Nigeria cum academic administrator also showcased Adebiyi Kehinde Oreoluwa, another 400-level student of the Department of Microbiology with a CGPA of 4.83 coupled with being the Founder of Campus Movement the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and the Campus Director for Million Fellowship by the UN Academic Impact.
The VC also revealed that Oreoluwa has also been named as 2019 Youth Lead Ambassador by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), adding to the fact that Adebiyi has also been selected by Erasmus Centre of Entrepreneurship in the Netherlands to work on the Project “Cocreate Lagos”.
Prof Fagbohun, therefore, admonished the matriculating students to emulate such fellow students and make them models.
He gave a stern warning to the freshers never to allow themselves to be lured or intimidated into joining any illegal and unregistered group such as secret cults and those peddling or taking hard drugs.
“Here, in LASU, cultism is No! No!, Indecent dressing is No! No! We don’t tell you what to wear but we do tell you what not to wear.
“For those of you who may choose to violate these rules, rest assured that the full weight of the law will be brought to bear on you and you may have to graduate before your time. So don’t join any group whose influence may cut short your dreams,” Fagbohun warned.
