The Lagos State Government has asked the youth to embrace agriculture to become self-reliant in view of the economic situation of the country.

The Commissioner for Wealth Creation and Employment, Mrs Yetunde Arobieke, spoke at a workshop organised by the state government for youths.

A statement on Sunday said the event was themed, “Agricpreneur: Strategy for Wealth Creation.”

Arobieke noted that the workshop was an initiative of the ministry to reduce the unemployment rate among residents, especially the youth.

She urged the youth to channel their strength and intellect into profitable ventures.

“There is the need for more involvement of the youth population in the business of agriculture. The youth are enthusiastic and innovative; these traits and energy need to be channelled into agriculture to boost this sector of the economy,” the commissioner said.

While urging young entrepreneurs to see agriculture as a lifestyle and a business that required focus and hard work, Arobieke said there was the need to make the participants at the seminar understand the intricacies of the agric business, in addition to the need for a good management strategy.

The Permanent Secretary in the ministry, Mrs Boladele Dapo-Thomas, asked the youth to leverage on the opportunities in the agric sector to earn a decent living.
