Kogi State Commissioner of Education, Mrs Rosemary Osikoya said the State is to recruit 3,700 as measures towards attaining quality education service in the state.

Osikoya disclosed this while inaugurating a Quality Assurance Directorate in the education system in Lokoja with a charge to ensure quality service delivery and bring back the loss glory of education to the State.

The Commissioner who was represented by the Director of Quality Assurance at the Ministry of Education, Hajiah Yusuf Sherifat, code named the initiative as; ” Operation Reach All Public Secondary Schools,” assured that there will be one hundred percent quality assurance in both public and private schools.

She explained that several measures will be put in place to evaluate academic activities and warned against abscondment and laziness of teachers at their duty post.

The Commissioner who led a team of evaluators to Government Secondary School Agbaja said the evaluation of school activities would help to identify problems bedevling academic activities and possible ways out.

In a remark, the State Chairman of Science Technical Education and Teaching Service Commission ( STETCOM), Mr Afolabi Raji who attributed the decline education standard particularly in public schools to lack of quality supervision, said the commission would do everything possible to reverse the trend.

He said “most of us here that are above forty passed through public secondary Schools where quality education is obtained. Most leaders today attended public schools as well. We have observed that over time that the standard of education in public schools has continued to spiral downward. Why is it that principals and administrators in education sector does not want their children to attend public schools?”

He disclosed that Governor Yahaya Bello has granted the approval for the recruitment of of three thousand, seven hundred teachers adding that teachers welfare and instructional materials would be provided to enhance teaching and learning activities.

He directed teachers to commence academic activities on resumption day pointing out that standard student time table, school time table and class manifest among others will be distributed across the state.

In his welcome address, the Director of Quality Assurance in the commission, Mrs Grace Owotunse said the initiative will add value to the education system and urged staff to always prepare to receive Quality Assurance Officers.

Also speaking at the occasion, the Massi of Agbaja, His Royal Highness, Issah Adugbere who disclosed that he was a former principal of the school expressed appreciation to (STETCOM) for the courage to improve public education system.
