A former Commissioner for Sports in Edo State, Brown Ebewele, says the state is ready to host the National Sports Festival, which begins on March 20.

While speaking with our correspondent, Ebewele, who is also a board member of the Athletics Federation of Nigeria, said Edo 2020 would be one of the best held in the annals of sports festivals in Nigeria.

“Edo State is ready to host the rest of the country and I tell you, it promises to be the best. Already, the five mini-stadia that would be used for the event have undergone massive reconstruction and are ready,”

On the readiness of the facilities, he said the Edo State Government had constructed befitting halls in the designated centres for the use of athletes.

He also said the tracks for sprint events have been completed and are ready for use.

“As I speak with you, the various centres where events would take place have been completed. The Tennis Courts, swimming pools are also ready for the festival,” he added.

Edo will host the sports festival for the third time, after it was hosted in Benin City in 1981, then as Bendel State, and in 2002.
