AWC: Balogun banks on Adekuoroye, Oborududu to shine

Balogun, in a chat with our correspondent, said she was certain of bringing back home the gold medal despite just moving to the 72kg category.

“I am well prepared for this African championships, I am good to go because I have not had a break since last year. I have been training very hard to maintain my form, despite moving to another weight category, the 72kg, I have no fear in my eyes”

“I am surrounded with world champions like Odunayo Adekuoroye, Aminat Adeniyi, Blessing Oborududu and they will give me more courage that I can do better than them.”

The two-time junior African champion and African senior champion in the 65kg category is part of the Nigerian delegation to the AWC.

The 15 wrestlers selected by the Nigeria Wrestling Federation to fly the country’s flag, arrived in Algiers for the tournament on Thursday.

They are made up of 10 female and five male wrestlers.

In the team are Blessing Oborududu (68kg), Odunayo Adekuoroye (57kg) and Aminat Adeniyi (62kg).

Others are Mercy Genesis (50kg), Amas Daniel (65kg), Emmanuel John (74kg) and Soso Tamarau (97kg) and world champion in Beach wrestling Blessing Onyebuchi (76kg),Bose Samuel (53kg), Bisola Makanjuola (59kg), Ebikewino Welson (57kg) and Ekerekeme Agiomor (86kg) are also in the squad.
