Governor Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia State has stated that the state university would establish a Department of Pharmacy in the proposed Aba campus of the institution.

According to Ikpeazu, the Pharmacy Department and that of Engineering of the Abia State University, would form the nucleus of the Aba campus expected to take off fully by the end of this year.

The Governor hinted this weekend when he received a delegation of the Anglican Diocese of Aba led by the Bishop, Rt. Rev. Chiodoadighi Christian Ugwuzor at the Governor’s Lodge Aba.

According to the Governor, approval has been given to the University to fast track the commencement of the Aba Campus at Osisioma and assured that serious construction will commence at the site shortly.

He expressed deep happiness with the management of the University for maintaining consistent high standards over the years which has resulted in the steady upward movement of the University in the ranking of Universities in Nigeria.

He assured the Anglican delegation that his administration will seriously consider their request on the merits to handover Hospital Road Primary School to them for management, as soon as the Technical Committee of the Ministry of Education concludes its work.

The Governor made it clear that churches and faith based organizations are excellent school managers and his administration will not hesitate to hand over schools to any church that meets the laid down criteria.

According to the Governor, “I am a product of a school run by a church and I am a living testimony to the fact that churches are better managers of our schools especially when it comes to inculcating positive values in children”.

The state government has handed over at least 20 schools to their original owners in the past eight years when it commenced the policy during the administration of former Gov. Theodore Orji.
