105 bag First Class as BUK graduates 9, 571 students

The Vice Chancellor of Bayero University, Kano (BUK), Prof. Muhammad Yahuza Bello on Friday said the institution will graduate a total of 9, 571 students in its forthcoming convocation ceremonies slated for between 10 and 15, June, 2019.

He said 105 of the graduating students will come out with First Class degree, adding that the graduation list is made up of 6, 174 first degree, 107 PhD, 2, 269 Masters Degree and 1, 039 post graduate diploma.

The VC, who stated this while briefing journalists on the activities lined up for the convocation, said there was 11 per cent increase compared to the number of students that graduated last year which was put at 8, 634.

According to him, a blind undergraduate of the Department of Special Education, Abdullahi Umar Abdullahi, is graduating with a Second Class Upper, while the University has spent N17 million for awarding scholarship to indigent students.

He also stated that, “the University Senate and Governing Council have decided to honour four individuals during this year’s Convocation ceremony- Emeritus Professorship will be conferred on Professor Abdulkadir Damgambo who retired from the services of the University in 2010, but who has continued to serve the University through teaching, research and supervision of postgraduate students.”

Prof. Yahuza further stated that Honorary Degrees will be conferred on Senator Bello Hayatu Gwarzo, Mr. Tony Elumelu and Dr. Folake Solanke (SAN) for their outstanding performance in their various fields of endeavour, as well as service to humanity.

He said the Executive Secretary of Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund), Prof. Suleiman Bogoro, will as part of the convocation activities commission some projects in the University on Friday, June 14, adding that a convocation lecture entitled “Revitalizing University Education in Nigeria: The Triple Helix Model,” will be delivered by the Executive Secretary of the National University Commission (NUC), Prof. Abubakar Rasheed, on the same day.
