Unity schools: Admission begins May 14

The Federal Government has received the results of the 2019 Common Entrance Examination from the National Examination Council for onward release to the public.

The FG  also said  it had begun admission  process  to the 104 unity schools nationwide.

The Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu, who received the results from the acting Registrar, Abubakar Gana, in Abuja, said the first batch of admissions would commence on May 14.

He said, “In this year’s exercise, national merit shall be 60 per cent while equality of states will be 30 per cent. Other factors shall be 10 per cent. Candidates who apply for schools outside their state of origin will be given priority.

“It is the hope of the government that every graduate of  the  unity schools should be able to speak at least one Nigerian language outside their mother tongue. The admission exercise, it will commence on May 14 with the first batch of admissions coming out in the first week of June.

“Supplementary admissions will take place between July 13  and  20, and by the second week of September, the gates of all our 104 unity schools will be opened for resumption.

“For next year’s admissions, we shall adjust the exam schedules to ensure that children get their admission letters before the end of April.”

No fewer than 75,635 candidates  on April 27 sat the NECO common entrance in 457 centres, including one centre in Port Novo, Benin Republic.
