- The Vice Chancellor of Unilorin, Prof. Sulyman Age Abdulkareem, said the move was to accommodate the huge number of applicants, particularly now that the university had become the most subscribed institution in the country.
The University of Ilorin (Unilorin) aims to admit at least 12,000 candidates for the 2019/2020 academic session. In the previous session, 86,401 applicants chose to study at the university out of which only 10,900 got admitted.
To this end, the university authorities have applied for increment of slots to the National Universities Commission (NUC).
The Vice Chancellor of Unilorin, Prof. Sulyman Age Abdulkareem, said the move was to accommodate the huge number of applicants, particularly now that the university had become the most subscribed institution in the country.
Speaking at the annual breaking of fast (Iftar) with journalists in Ilorin, Prof. Abdulkareem disclosed that his goal was to have limitless spaces, but for NUC and Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) regulations. “Today, the normal quota is 10,900, but they are going to give room for alteration and allow us to admit for a session not more than 12,000 students,” he said.
