An 18-year-old man, Terna Taga, who allegedly defiled and impregnated a 10-year-old girl, has been arrested by the police in Benue State.
It was reported that the victim was raped at an Internally Displaced Persons’ camp in the state.
The Benue State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Catherine Anene, confirmed on Wednesday that Taga was arrested at the North Bank area on Tuesday.
She said the suspect was in custody for interrogation.
“The command will decide on the next line of action after full interrogation and investigation into the case,” Anene said.
According to a Facebook post, the victim was dumped in the General Hospital, Makurdi by an unknown person.
A blogger, Chigozie Effe, had solicited help from well-meaning Nigerians regarding the girl’s delivery, saying she could not afford it.
The minor was reportedly transferred to the Foundation Memorial Hospital, Makurdi, where she was delivered of a baby girl through Caesarean section on Monday.
Effe added that the girl needed support to take care of her baby.
“At the moment, she needs baby bath, diapers, wiper, comfit pad, mosquito net, detergent, pegs, dryer, latex gloves, cotton wool, baby food, flask and beverages, among others,” he said.
