Determined to enhance effective delivery of the mandate of Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund), the SERVICOM Unit of the Fund recently organised a sensitization workshop for the Management and Staff of the agency.
The workshop which was held in Abuja and attracted about 400 participants was geared to ensure a more effective service delivery in the organisation.
Speaking at the event, with the theme, ‘Unbundling the service charter for greater productivity in the Fund,’ Head of Service of the Federation, Mrs Winifred Oyo-Ita, tasked participants to always live up to their responsibilities in the discharge of duties.
Represented by Mr Olowofoyeku James; Director Special Duties, Oyo-Ita said there is need for staff to identify appropriate tools to deliver on the Fund’s mandate in line with Service Charter.
“One of its goals is to ensure that service takers understand their rights to public services, the service standards they should expect and how to demand for that service or speak up where it is deficient,” she said.
Also speaking, Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Education, Arc. Sonny Echono, restated government’s commitment in ensuring Nigerians have access to quality service, especially in the education sector.
Echono commended SERVICOM Unit of TETFund for re-energizing the staff on positive values in public service delivery.
In a remark, National Coordinator, SERVICOM, Mrs Nnenna Akajemeli, reiterated the role of the body in the Nigeria’s public service and expressed happiness with the vitality of the Unit in TETFund.
She urged the Fund to produce their SERVICOM Charter as soon as possible and launch it.
On his part, Executive Secretary of TETFund, Prof. Suleiman Bogoro, called on participants to leverage on the lessons learnt to attain the vision of the organisation, which is to be a world class interventionist agency.
“Our goal as an organization must be to increase our productivity collectively in our march towards transforming Nigeria’s tertiary education system. I have recently reinvigorated my vision for re-strategizing Research and Development in our higher educational institutions, starting with the universities.
“We have received national and international accolade for this drive and determination. We expect all our staff to demonstrate more commitment to these national objectives,” Bogoro, who was represented by Dr Aminu Anas, Director Human Resources and General Administration, said.
Earlier, Head of TETFund’s SERVICOM Unit, Mrs Ebere Nwobu, expressed delight that the workshop, which took place from 6th to 8th August, will rub off positively on activities of participants.
“As we all know, SERVICOM enhances the right of Nigerians to demand for good services and challenge service failure. I believe this workshop will have a positive effect on the productivity level of the Fund’s workforce,” she said.
Resource persons at the workshop include Mr Tope Fasua, Director General, Institute of Service Excellence and Good Governance and Prof Walter Ihejirika from the University of Port Harcourt.
