Just after carving up Emir Sanusi’s powers barely a month ago by dividing the ancient Kano Emirate into five, Governor Ganduje of Kano State scraps Emir Sanusi’s royal parade.
The traditional march which usually sees the Emir pay tribute to the governor while on horseback will not hold this year.
The procession in the northern town of Kano which is a symbolic march celebrating the power of the monarch and usually held to mark the end of the Muslim month of Ramadan, had been due to take place on Thursday.
The Governor’s spokesperson, Abba Anwar said the royal carnival was cancelled due to security reasons.
However, the Emir’s Office said that the palace will comply with the government’s decision. The office added that the Emir will instead hold special prayers to commemorate the anniversary of his coronation.
