  • “It was not only the Bill establishing the Maritime University that was declined by Mr. President, other bills too suffered similar fate.

THE Maritime University in Okerenkoko has rebuffed claims that the presidential decline of assent to the bill establishing the university will lead to difficulty in funding for the university. This is even as the university described such claims as mere speculation.

Speaking to the Nigerian Tribune exclusively, a media aide to the Vice Chancellor of the university who was not authorized to speak on the matter explained that with the new leadership of the National Assembly, the university is confident of securing the much coveted presidential assent.

According to the media aide, “It was not only the Bill establishing the Maritime University that was declined by Mr. President, other bills too suffered similar fate. That does not mean that Mr. President won’t eventually give his assent.

“The university will work with the new leadership at the National Assembly to ensure its Bill secures assent from the Presidency. That Mr. President declined won’t lead to difficulty in funding. Don’t forget that the Niger Delta region will do anything to ensure the university comes on board. Reports making the rounds that the ppresidential decline will lead to difficulty in funding are mere speculations. It won’t lead to difficulty in funding as relevant maritime agencies are solidly behind the university to thrive.”
