Oyo, Osun must end LAUTECH crisis – NUC
- The National Universities Commission has asked the Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, and his Osun State counterpart, Gboyega Oyetole, to address the “unending crisis and unresolved problems” of the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Ogbomoso, Oyo State.
The National Universities Commission has asked the Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, and his Osun State counterpart, Gboyega Oyetole, to address the “unending crisis and unresolved problems” of the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Ogbomoso, Oyo State.
The NUC Executive Secretary, Prof. Abubakar Rasheed, who stated this in Abuja, when he received Makinde at the NUC headquarters, noted that the commission would be willing to advise both states on how to run a medical school.
The NUC secretary said, “The commission is happy that the Governor of Oyo State is serious about resolving the lingering crisis that bedevilled the institution. I see no reason why the two states cannot run LAUTECH successfully. The Oyo State Government should take over the school and fund it properly, while the Osun State Government should take over the teaching hospital.
“The commission will be willing to advise the Osun State Government on how to establish and run a successful medical school using the teaching hospital. The NUC will invite the leadership of the school to hear from the management of the institution and the management of the teaching hospital.”
According to the NUC bulletin obtained by our correspondent on Tuesday, the Executive Secretary also advocated for a tripartite meeting between Oyo, Osun and the NUC over the lingering crisis.
Responding, Makinde said his government was aware of LAUTECH’s problems even before he became the governor, noting that one of his campaign promises was to look into the crisis of the institution and solve it.
