The Nigeria Chess Federation president, Lekan Adeyemi, made a surprise appearance at the Capa-Tal Blitz Chess Challenge on Sunday at the Cheveron Recreation Centre, Gbagada, Lagos.
The tournament is sponsored by leading Nigerian chess players Yinka Adewole and Nnamdi Nwoye in partnership with Chess Players Association of Nigeria and Chevron.
This year, the NCF in line with the renewed determination to bridge the gap between the federation and the players, supported the tournament and the president of the federation, Adeyemi, made a surprise appearance at the tournament as a participant.
Speaking after the game, Adeyemi said, “I’m delighted to be here. I haven’t played a tournament in about 20 years, so you can imagine how happy I am to have played in this tournament.”
The February 2020 edition of the Capa-Tal Blitz Chess Challenge is the first of many editions to come in 2020 and the organisers hope it will continue to grow in popularity and reach.
