New international acquisition, Cyriel Dessers, renewed his Nigerian passport in holland on Tuesday, thus signaling his intent to be part of the Super Eagles squad for next month’s 2021 AFCON double-header qualifiers against Sierra Leone.

Dessers becomes the latest Nigerian footballer in the Diaspora to commit his international future to the Eagles, and certainly looks ready to earn his debut against the Leone Stars.

“Yes he had his passport renewal on Tuesday,” Nigeria Football Federation president Amaju Pinnick said.

His acquisition adds to the growing list of overseas-born players with Nigerian lineage willing to play for the West African country.

The 25-year-old Heracles Almelo striker is a Belgian player of Nigerian descent; he has a Belgian father and a Nigerian mother.

Dutch website, hbvl.be, also confirmed that the striker, who has scored 18 goals with six assists in all competitions this season, has been handed his passport.

“For Cyriel Dessers, nothing stands in the way of an international career with Nigeria. The 25-year-old striker of Heracles Almelo won his Nigerian passport on Tuesday and can now play for the Super Eagles,” it stated.
