Speaking at the opening ceremony of a two-day induction and training workshop, the Commissioner for Education, Mrs Folosade Adefisayo, in a statement issued on Wednesday, said the newly appointed school managers were resourceful individuals, who had over the years contributed to educational development in the state.
Adefisayo added that the theme, ‘Strategic Thinking, Management and Policy Development Skills’, would address salient issues in school administration and give participants ample understanding of the roles and responsibilities in the day to day running of the school system.
“The teaching profession is an evolving career, hence, school administrators need to develop the penchant for continuous learning to keep pace with the demand of the school system and importantly master the daily requirement of students’ development,” she said.
The commissioner urged the newly appointed Principals and Vice-Principals to always be conscious of the fact that they are nurturers, creators and destiny builders who determine the future of Nigeria through their noble profession.
She advised them not to abuse their positions as school heads, but to uphold good principles and make their mission known to their pupils, parents and community.
The Chairman of the state Teaching Service Commission, Mrs Olabisi Ariyo, said the workshop was organised to integrate and equip the appointees with leadership skills that will take them through their career path.
Describing teaching as a profession of hope whose improvement lay in enlightened school leadership, Ariyo described the moral purpose of education as a critical motivator for sustaining complex reforms, moral leadership and lies at the heart of school advancement.
While encouraging the inductees to be good leaders and role models, the Chairman appreciated the enviable leadership of Governor Sanwo-Olu. She stressed that the present administration had been supportive to education’s course, uplifting education in affirmation of the governor’s THEMES agenda.
Also speaking at the event, the Permanent Secretary, Mrs Toyin Idowu Awoseyi, appreciated the Governor for his magnanimous support to the teachers in ensuring the attainment of a high standard of education.
