The Kaduna State University, on Thursday, donated 5,000 books to the Public Primary School, Lokoja Road, Rigasa, Kaduna metropolis.
The university’s Librarian, Prof. Abdullahi Musa, told the News Agency of Nigeria after the donation that the books were worth N1.5m and were meant to inculcate reading culture in the pupils.
Musa added that the university equally donated some teaching aids to improve the quality of teaching and learning in the primary school.
He said the donation was part of activities to commemorate the 2020 World Book Day to promote the reading culture, especially among younger people.
He stated, “Our goal is to share our knowledge, expertise and resources to particularly the underprivileged in our communities.
“As a university, we will continue to do more for the benefit of our younger ones, who need educational materials to aid their learning abilities.”
The librarian encouraged the pupils to make the best use of the books to attract more assistance from the university and other corporate organisations.
Responding, the Executive Chairman, Kaduna State Universal Basic Education Board, Malam Abdullahi Sani, thanked KASU for the gesture, describing it as a “lasting legacy” in the life of the pupils.
Sani, who was represented by the Director, Schools Inspection and Monitoring on the board, Malam Aliyu Idris, said, “There is no better gift to a pupil than a book.
“This donation will significantly encourage reading habit among pupils in the school.”
He assured KASU that the school would make the best use of the books, adding that they were a rare gift for the teachers and the pupils.
