An Ilorin-based educationist, Mr. Muhideen Lawal, has advised teachers to adopt and develop new teaching techniques to reflect a changing world.
Lawal, in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Monday in Ilorin, noted that the purpose of schooling was to prepare students for success after graduation.
According to him, schools need to prioritize the knowledge and skills that would be in the greatest demand and not just teaching students to perform well in school.
“It is high time we moved from our crude way of teaching, which has become obsolete.
“We need to improve in the way we teach, by exploiting technology to support learning and also foster students’ creativity.
“The world is changing; so, we also have to change with it, if we want to meet up with the contemporary world,” Lawal said.
He urged the Ministry of Education to adjust the school curriculum to replace obsolete ones with contemporary teachings.
“Some things that are still in our school’s curriculum should not be there anymore, going by the growing trend.
“So, it needs to be adjusted to accommodate new ones, so that we will move with the world,” Lawal said.
