- “You will hear more about it in due course. This is to enable us produce students that have practical orientation and therefore empowered for the competitive workplace of tomorrow,” the Permanent Secretary said.
The Federal Government will soon upgrade some of its Colleges of Education to full-fledged education universities to meet the present need of the country, Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Education, Arch. Sonny Echono, has said.
Echono, who disclosed this in Abuja at a meeting on strengthening the implementation of Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 4 at the three tiers of government, said the education universities will focus more on Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) as well as Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) programmes.
“To fast track STEM and TVET, we have established more tertiary institutions. We have accorded some of our polytechnics the status of degree awarding institutions and we are even at the verge of transforming some of our colleges of education to universities.
“You will hear more about it in due course. This is to enable us produce students that have practical orientation and therefore empowered for the competitive workplace of tomorrow,” the Permanent Secretary said.
The AUTHORITY reports that the immediate past administration had in May 2015 upgraded Adeyemi College of Education, Ondo, Federal College of Education Zaria, Federal College of Education, Kano, and Alvan Ikoku College of Education, Owerri, to universities before the decision was later reversed by the present government.
