- The lecture, titled ‘Faith, Fact and Fiction’ would hold at the university stadium on June 2, after which Falola would be conferred with a honorary doctorate degree.
The Jacob and Frances Sanger Mossiker Chair at the University of Texas at Austin, Prof. Toyin Falola, is set to deliver the guest lecture at the forthcoming 17th convocation of Babcock University in Ilesan Remo, Ogun State.
The lecture, titled ‘Faith, Fact and Fiction’ would hold at the university stadium on June 2, after which Falola would be conferred with a honorary doctorate degree.
A statement from the university disclosed that Falola’s lecture would address the relevance of faith in the context of related ideas of fact and fiction.
According to the statement, Falola said, “Faith and society have always been linked since the birth of human civilisation. There is, therefore, no running away from the fact that religion is the bedrock, upon which the success of every scientific engagement is built.
“It is, indeed, my unyielding suggestion that the great nation of Nigeria must combine faith with science and technology. The three would make a combinatorial force capable of catapulting our society to an enviable position. When our scientific engagements begin to unearth curious discoveries that may stray our common sense, there and then faith is usually needed to drive us back into a normalcy which follows the moral compass of our society.”
Falola added that faith could anchor people’s journey towards scientific inquiry, as such a school, which is committed to making holistic education, both academic and spiritual, would need to prove itself worthy through the crop of academic products that the country and the world harvest from it annually.
