The Founder of Elizade University, Ilara Mokin in Ondo State, Chief Micheal Ade- Ojo, has called on the management and staff of the university to work hard and ensure that the university becomes one of the best 10 universities in Nigeria within the next five years.
Speaking during the inauguration of the third Governing Council of the university held on the main campus of the institution, Ade-Ojo said he had so far invested a total sum of N28billion on the university in order to make it a world class educational institution.
He explained that his motive for establishing the university was to reverse the exodus of Nigerian youths to foreign countries by making “what they were seeking overseas” available in the country and at cheaper costs.
The founder, who commended the past governing councils headed by Prof S Adegoke and Mr Aigboje Aig-Imoukhuede for their efforts in moving the institution forward, charged members of the newly inaugurated council to take the university to a new level of greatness.
He said, “I wish to charge the university to tap into every available technology in order bring knowledge to its students from anywhere in the world, particularly in the areas where lecturers are not available locally or where they are inadequate. This is why I have invested a lot in ICT and IT from the beginning of the university. “I have committed my life to this university and to that extent, I have invested over N28billion in the institution. God helping me, I will continue to do my best for the university until it becomes self-sustainable.
“Let me also encourage you all, as members of the council and as critical stakeholders in the university project, to begin to think of a viable endowment launch for the university for the purpose of assisting the founder, who is the sole financier of the institution at this point in time.
“I want to also urge you to work assiduously for the overall development of the university, such that during your tenure it would be said that the university attained both local and global recognition.”
Responding, the Chairman of the new Governing Council, Prof Olufemi Bamiro, said the council would work towards achieving the goals and vision of the founder, adding the all the challenges of the institution would be addressed.
