The Ijesha North Traditional Council has suspended the Aketewi of Iketewi in the Obokun Local Government Area of Osun State, Oba Olusiji Ogungbemi, who is standing trial for the rape of a minor.

A statement issued after a meeting of the monarchs on Sunday explained that the suspension would last until the court would take a decision on the matter before it.

The statement signed by the Elegboro of Ijebu-Jesha, Oba Moses Agunsoye, pointed out misinformation in the report circulating in the media and said the Owalare of Ilare, Oba Adejoro Otebolaku, was never the defendant in the matter.

The statement said, “That Oba Olusiji Ogungbemi, the Aketewi of Iketewi in the Obokun Local Government Area be suspended with immediate effect from all activities of the Ijesha North Traditional Council and the Obokun Chieftaincy Committee pending the decision of the court.

“The council will like to inform the public that it was an error and misinformation for some media to have mentioned Oba Adejoro Otebolaku, the Owalare of Ilare, as the culprit in the case. The Owalare of Ilare was never involved.

“The offender is no other than the Aketewi of Iketewi and not the Alahun of Ilahun, or the Owalare of Ilare.”

Meanwhile, Magistrate Olusegun Ayilara of the Osogbo Chief Magistrates’ Court has admitted Oba Ogungbemi and two others standing trial for sexual exploitation and defilement of a minor to bail.

Ruling on their bail application at the resumed hearing of the matter on Monday, Ayilara admitted the defendants to bail in the sum of N1m with one surety each in like sum.

He, thereafter, transferred the matter to the Ijebu-Jesha Magistrates’ Court for mention on July 8, 2020.
