The Flying Eagles are drawn against Ghana and Ivory Coast in Group B of the WAFU B U-20 qualifying tournament in Togo from November 18 to December 2, while the Eaglets team are in Group B with Ghana and Ivory Coast for the WAFU B U-17 tournament in Benin Republic from December 5 to 20.

The winners of the tournaments would represent the zone at the 2021 U-17 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco next March.

“The coaches are eager to start training ahead of the tournament next month, but the Nigeria Football Federation is yet to approve it,” a source in the NFF told our correspondent on condition of anonymity.

“It has been delayed a bit because they are trying to put in place measures for COVID-19 testing for the invited players and also get more thermometers.

“The nationwide protests against the disbanded Special Anti-Robbery Squad unit of the police is also a major concern. So, we don’t want to endanger the lives of the players in camp.”

Coach of the U-17 team, Fatai Amoo, also informed The PUNCH that there’s no official date yet for his team to resume camping.

“No official date yet. The #EndSARS protests and all may have been part of the reason for the delay,”

“We have to allow the dust of the recent happenings to settle before we start camping.”
