BREAKING: Buhari Appoints new Group Managing Director for NNPC
Appoints 7 New Operating Officers
Mr President has appointed a new Group Managing Director for the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, Mr Mele Kolo Kyari (North-East), with effect from 7th July 2019.
His Excellency has also appointed seven (7) new Chief Operating Officers with effect from 7th July 2019. They are:
- Mr Roland Onoriode Ewubare (South-South) – Chief Operating Officer, Upstream;
- Engineer Mustapha Yinusa Yakubu (North-Central) – Chief Operating Officer, Refining and Petrochemicals;
- Engineer Yusuf Usman (North-East) – Chief Operating Officer, Gas and Power;
- Ms Lawrencia Nwadiabuwa Ndupu (South-East) – Chief Operating Officer, Ventures;
- Mr Umar Isa Ajiya (North-West) – Chief Financial Officer;
- Engineer Adeyemi Adetunji (South-West) – Chief Operating Officer, Downstream; and
- Mr Farouk Garba Said (North-West) – Chief Operating Officer, Corporate Services (with effect from 28th June 2019);
Recall that the former NNPC boss was facing alleged corruption charges by SERAP in the open letter written to President Buhari.
“SERAP notes the recent allegations of corruption against Mr Baru by Dr Emmanuel Ibe Kachikwu, Minister of State of Petroleum and Chairman NNPC Board. In the letter to you Dr Kachikwu alleged among others appointments and postings in NNPC without due process; award of contracts above $20m without following the legal and procedural requirements for such contracts including the Crude Term contracts- valued at over $10bn; the DSDP contracts- value over $5bn; the AKK pipeline contract- value approximately $3bn; various financing allocation funding contracts with the NOCs – value over $3bn; and various NPDC production service contracts – valued at over $3bn–$4bn.”
Mr President has directed that the new appointees work with the current occupants of the various positions between now and 7th July 2019 towards a smooth transition on 8th July 2019.
