The Bauchi State Government has secured $6 million for the implementation of Better Education Service Delivery For All (BESDA) programme in line with the Federal Ministry of Education initiative and in collaboration with the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC).

State governor, Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, who disclosed this on Thursday at the launching of the programme at Alkaleri Local Government Area of the state, said already, N40 million has been approved for the provision of teaching and learning materials.

Mohammed said the state government had already released N436 million as part of his administration’s support to a programme being run by NEI- plus, a USAID intervention programme in the state.

“It is so disheartening that Nigeria has over 10 million out-of-school children with Bauchi State recording 1.3 million. Here in Alkaleri Local Government Area where I come from, there are over 300 out-of-school children.

“The state government has taken drastic measures in addressing the problem of out-of-school children in the state via the implementation of this laudable project.

“This will assist in reducing the level of illiteracy in the state through the tracking and mopping of out-of-school children by returning them back to the classroom,” he said.

The governor called on the MDAs for the implementation of the project to adhere strictly with the rules and guidelines of the programme.
