Group to visit Nigeria over ICT education

A group of professionals from the International Society of Comparative Education, Science and Technology will be meeting in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, to canvass the use of Information and Communication Technology in Nigerian primary and secondary schools, amidst other issues.

The society added that by December, the experts would be holding an annual conference to discuss the theme, ‘Lifelong education for personal and national development, gender education, entrepreneurship and sustainable education beyond 2020.’

According to a statement issued by ISCEST, the education and ICT professionals are expected to arrive in Nigeria soon from the United States, Bulgaria, South Africa, Ireland, Canada, United Kingdom and Germany, among other countries.

The President of ISCEST, Nigeria chapter, Prof Steve Azaiki, said, “The range and depth of the discussions, which have taken place at previous editions of the conference have positioned us as one of the premier scholarly bodies for shaping conversations and policy outcomes on education in Africa.

“The diversity of conversations also caters to the diverse range of participants within the continent and beyond, and across civil society, the private sector, academia, government, and other stakeholders.”

According to the statement, the global conference on Nigeria’s education system taking place in the first week of December will provide a platform to discuss several education “issues that bother many Nigerians.”

“The experts will stimulate a debate on a wide range of issues, and solutions on education, science, and technology. The most pertinent themes on educational rights and inclusion in Nigeria include; an entrepreneurship focus for primary and secondary education, sustainable education beyond 2020, ICT for primary, secondary and higher education, curriculum development for engineering science and technology,” the statement said.
