The founder of Afe Babalola University, Ado Ekiti, Chief Afe Babalola, has sought a Memorandum of Understanding with the Nigerian Army for security-related courses in the institution.
Babalola said partnership between the army and institution would contribute to the peace process in the country.
The Senior Advocate of Nigeria urged the army to partner the institution in a bid to ensure peace in the country.
The ABUAD founder spoke in Ado Ekiti on Wednesday during the institution’s Department of Peace and Conflict Resolution Studies, titled ‘Conflict and National Security in Nigeria, Dynamics, Challenges and Solutions’.
The lecture was delivered by the General Officer Commanding, 81 Division of the Nigerian Army, Lagos, Maj Gen Olubunmi Irefin.
Babalola said, “Our institution is the first to introduce this course to the undergraduate level, which is commendable and the Nigeria University Commission acknowledged this feat. We need an MoU with the Nigerian Army, especially in the area of our Peace and Conflict Resolutions Department which will go a long way to enhance peace in society.”
He also called on the army and other security agencies to tackle the security challenges facing the country.
Irefin, who promised to help facilitate the partnership, called for support the army and other security agencies to ensure peace in the country.
The military chief, who lamented the damage that insecurity had caused in the nation, said the various operations being carried out by the military were targeted ensuring peace.
He said, “The security threats are real, but most times, the aim of the military and other security agencies are misconstrued.”
