The Chairman of the Lagos State Universal Basic Education Board, Dr Ganiyu Sopeyin, on Monday said studies had resumed across primary schools in the state.
He noted that there was no change in the resumption date earlier announced by the board.
Sopeyin, who addressed schoolchildren alongside the SUBEB monitoring team, spoke through the board secretary, Mrs Foluso Ajimoti.
While commending the large turnout of pupils, teachers and head tutors in some of the schools visited, the chairman noted that some parents had yet to release their children for academic activities.
He said, “We are aware that the reason some parents have not released their children for school is as a result of an unconfirmed report that there is a change in the September 9 resumption date. I must stress that this is not true as academic work has already started across our schools.”
The chairman commended the head teacher, staff and pupils of St. Francis Nursery School, Maryland, and other schools that started academic work on the first day of resumption.
Sopeyin said rehabilitation works were ongoing in some schools in the state, assuring that areas not yet covered under the renovation scheme would be reached in due course.
He explained that the plan by the state government to domesticate the Home Grown Feeding Programme of the Federal Government was also on course and would soon commence.
