The Vice-Chancellor, Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Ogbomoso, Prof. Michael  Ologunde, says the institution is planning to recruit more lecturers to boost its nursing and midwifery training.

The vice-chancellor said this while receiving members of  the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria, led by Prof. Milfred John of the University of Calabar, who visited LAUTECH on a peer review mission.

The Public Relations Officer, LAUTECH, Mr Lekan Fadeyi, quoted the VC to have said this in a statement.

The VC called on the council  to contribute to the process of increasing admission quota into nursing and midwifery for the institution, saying the university had the  requirements  to be named a   centre of excellence in nursing and midwifery training,

According to him,  LAUTECH has facilities and manpower to make it a centre of excellence in nursing and midwifery training.

He said, “This university belongs to Oyo and Osun states and we have two large well-equipped teaching hospitals. We are committed to improving on all our facilities even as I make bold to say that we are planning to recruit more lecturers to sustain on our ratings, especially in nursing.

“Nursing is so important to us. We are determined to train more professionals as our own contribution to helping to reduce quackery. Nobody likes to be treated by quacks when thoroughbred professionals are available.

“It is therefore my appeal to your council and other stakeholders to allow us train more nurses and midwives, so that our otherwise under-utilised facilities can be put to adequate use.”
