Speaker of the Assembly,Hon.Aminu Iya Abbas gave the expression in Yola while receiving the leadership of the Organization on courtesy call in his office at the Assembly’s complex, stressing the readiness of the legislative arm to according the organization needed cooperation for their activities in the state
Hon.Abbas appreciated VSF for rendering necessary assistance to the victims of terrorism most especially in Madagali, Michika, Mubi north, Mubi south, Maiha, Hong and Gombi Local Government areas.
He said victims of the insurgency are still facing hardship and needed intervention so as to ameliorate their suffering, lamenting that the dreaded Boko Haram attacks affected many social amenities like schools and health care centers and needed more intervention.
Speaker Aminu Iya Abbas appreciated the organisation for the visit and reiterated the readiness of the hollowed chamber towards supporting its activities in order to do more in its humanitarian services.
In his remarks, the Majority Leader and member representing Jada Mbulo constituency, Hammantukur Yettisuri, appealed to VSF to expand its programmes to southern senatorial district most especially Ganye Local Government, as it was once hit by the terrorists.
He also applauded the activities of VSF and declared the readiness of the members of the House to contribute their quarter even if it is financially as counterpart so as to enable them benefit from from it.
On his part the member representing Verre constituency Alhaji Abdullahi Umar Yapak, said his constituency had hosted Internally Displaced Persons in the wake of the attacks, informing them that they had suffered and needed intervention.
Speaking earlier, the Executive Director VSF, Professor Sunday Ochoche, said that they were in the speaker’s office to intimate him and other members on some of the activities of the organisation most especially at the BH affected areas.
Professor Ochoche said that the primary reason behind establishing the organisation is to take care of the victims of terrorism and violence across the country, saying that some of their activities are economic empowerement for victims, educational support for terror affected and displaced and support for overstretched hospitals to provide free treatment to the victims.
While responding to the request put to him by some of the members on the need to expand their programmes to their respective constituencies, the Executive Director, told them that VSF operates in insurgency affected areas approved by the Federal Government.
