A 37-year-old night guard, Wasiu Orilonise, on Thursday, told a Chief Magistrate Court at Ibadan Magisterial District, sitting in Iwo-Road, that he raped his 15-year-old daughter in a bid to protect her and ascertain her virginity.

Wasiu, who was docked before the Chief Magistrate Taiwo Olaniran, on a one-count charge bordering on having carnal knowledge of his daughter in a charge‎ delineated Mi/271c/2019, told the court this when his case was called.

While responding to questions from Magistrate Olaniran, Wasiu, who was accused of defiling his biological daughter, stated that since he lost his wife years back, he had been taking care of Adenike and her siblings, adding that he committed the act in an attempt to protect her daughter.

According to him, the incident happened while he was trying to ascertain if Adenike had lost her virginity. He confessed that upon discovering that his daughter was still a virgin, he started having sex regularly with her both in the morning before she leaves for school and at night.

Wasiu had been charged by the Police Prosecutor, Mr Sunday Ogunremi, to have in December 2018, at Omo Village, Agbofieti, Ibadan, in the Ibadan magisterial district, raped one Orilonise Adenike without her consent.

Ogunremi‎ said the offence was contrary to and punishable under Section 34, (1) and (2) of the Child Rights Law of Oyo State of Nigeria, 2006.

His plea was‎, however, not taken because the court was still awaiting legal advice, Magistrate Olaniran condemned the act of defiling minors especially by their fathers, adding that this is bad for the society.

He, thereafter, ordered that Wasiu be remanded in Agodi Prisons pending legal advice from the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) and adjourned the case till July 30, 2019.
