The Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON) says an inter-ministerial screening committee has shortlisted five entries for the 2019 African Organisation for Standardisation (ARSO) 6th continental Essay Competition after it examined 141 entries from students of tertiary institutions across the country.
The five winning entries will participate in the annual essay competition, aimed at promoting knowledge in standardisation amongst undergraduates across the African Continent.
A statement from the office of the Director General of SON, Mr Osita Aboloma, and signed by Bola Fashina, Head, Public Relations of the Organisation, said the topic for this year’s competition is “The Role of Standardisation in Winning the Fight against Corruption for Sustainable African Transformation”.
The statement listed the shortlisted names and their institutions to include; Evan-Ibe Savictor Sobechi, University of Nigeria (UNN), Nsukka; Ndubisi Chibuzor Paul, UNN, Nsukka; Eze Ifunaya Nnaemeka, Federal University of Technology, Owerri; Kingsley Alumona, University of Ibadan and Eze Ebuka Harrison, UNN, Nsukka.
The statement, which applauded the outstanding number of entries for this year’s exercise, noted that the level of awareness on standardisation has significantly increased in Nigeria.
The statement further stated that the 2019 topic is aimed at bringing out the benefits of the fight against corruption, status and challenges of corruption within Africa, the fight against corruption as a catalyst for improving the quality and standards of products and services, among others.
The AUTHORITY reports that the Nigerian Financial Intelligence Unit (NFIU), the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) were co-opted into the inter-ministerial screening committee for this year’s essay competition.
