Super Falcons midfielder, Halimatu Ayinde, has expressed delight over the decision of the Confederation of African Football to introduce the Women’s Champions League for clubs in Africa starting from 2021.
CAF’s Executive Committee took the decision to introduce the Women’s’ Champions League with at least 10 clubs on the continent at a virtual meeting held last week.
The Eskilstuna United player said, “I am very glad with this development as it would help our teams in Nigeria to gain more exposure. We will also see on a first-hand basis, how women’s football can be better developed through participation in the competition.
“To say the truth, our women’s league is very poor in terms of welfare of the players and other areas of the women’s league development.”
She added, “However, if clubs like Rivers Angels, Nasarawa Amazons and Pelican Stars play in this completion, it will help these big teams to develop their football better.
“In fact, participation will change our women’s football culture.
“Once we start to play continental football, football administrators will gain more experience and it will help in the development of our home league because they (administrators) will emulate and practice what they see to make our league better.”
