REGY AND HENRY AMAZING GRACE FOUNDATION VISITS MABUSHI SLUM, DISTRIBUTES PALLIATIVES TO VULNERABLE WOMEN, GIRLS AND CHILDREN

……. creates awareness on human trafficking, sensitizes the women on covid-19 and the need to stay safe.

  • Speaking during the event, the founder of the NGO, Dr Regina Duru reprimanded  the women the dangers of human trafficking and encouraged them to see life beyond their present environment by enrolling on skill acquisition programs of the NGO that will help them to earn a living. She also admonished the women to shun every attempt by human traffickers to lure them. Dr Duru enlightened them on some of the  attractive measures that  most human  traffickers use to  lure gullible women.  Also, she prayed for their well being and asked them to be steadfast in God who never abandon His creatures.

AS part of her mission which seeks to engender development by restoration and rehabilitation of sex workers on moral behavioral change, transferable capacity building and values that promote self-reliance, inspire change, provide a comprehensive, integrated and holistic approach in the care of sex workers and those with behavioral health among others, the Non Governmental Organization; Regy and Henry Amazing Grace Foundation visited some sex workers in one of the slums in the Federal  Capital Territory.

 

 

 

The visit which was aimed at giving a helping hand to the women living in the slum was accompanied by sensitization on the safety measures during this period of COVID-19 Pandemic and creating awareness on the dangers of human trafficking.

The women numbering over 300 where ably represented by their heads in accordance with the NCDC set rules as part of the measures to combat the spread of Covid-19.

While addressing the sex workers, the  coordinator for Mabushi slum, Regina-Mater Effiong explained to the women the need to practice social distancing as well as ways  to stay safe during Corona Virus Pandemic. She sensitized them on Covid-19 symptoms and preventive measures.

In excitement and appreciation, one of the beneficiaries,  Alice Monday expressed gratitude to the NGO and thanked them for their continues outreach, sensitization and empowerment. She therefore urged the Government and well meaning Nigerians to support Regy and Henry Amazing Grace Foundation in their effort to change the narratives and uplift the life of sex workers who lavish in different slums across the nation.

The highlight of the event was the distribution of palliatives by the NGO to the women. The palliatives which included food items, face masks and disinfectants was aimed at reducing hunger and assisting the women to have access to disinfectants and sanitizers against covid-19.The women were also gifted Holy Bibles for their spiritual needs.

Recall that the NGO which started since 2009 has since then assisted most of the sex workers in abandoning the slums and turning a new leaf by giving them free training on various skills and empowering them with relevant equipment and financial support to set up their own businesses.
