The National President, All Nigeria Confederation of Principals of Secondary Schools, Mr Anselm Izuagie, has canvassed urgent repair of public schools in all parts of Nigeria.
Izuagie, while canvassing a better change of attitude by federal and state governments towards revamping education, also advocated better funding and provision of human and material resources.
The ANCOPSS boss, represented by the First National Vice President, Alhaji Umar Ubangari, spoke in Ekiti, during the association’s National Executive Council meeting.
He urged Governor Kayode Fayemi to use his position as the chairman, Nigeria Governors’ Forum, to draw the Federal Government’s attention to the problems of education in the country.
Izuagie lauded Fayemi for education-friendly policies like abrogation of levies on pupils in public schools and payment of running grants for smooth management of schools, among others.
The ANCOPSS boss, who decorated Fayemi with ‘Distinguished Award of Excellence’ of the association, said, “Governor Fayemi is a voice of reason, stability and peace in the Nigerian nation, a vibrant and pragmatic democrat who believes that the secret of leadership is the well-being of his people.”
Fayemi, who expressed gratitude to ANCOPSS for the award, described principals as important stakeholders in the education industry.
He said, “The designs of this administration for the education sector are immense. Prevailing circumstances have, however, slowed down its pace at actualising all these designs. It is with this realisation that I would like to commend the managers of our public secondary schools in respect of their cooperation with government in this regard.”
