Soremekun said he had since assumption of office been completing abandoned projects and as well building infrastructure in the institution “to ensure conducive academic environment, promote excellence and motivate both the staff and students of the university”.
The vice-chancellor, who spoke at Oye Ekiti during an inspection of 47 infrastructural projects in the Oye Ekiti and Ikole Ekiti campuses of the institution, gave the assurance that before the end of 2020, many modern facilities would be installed.
The facilities jointly inspected by the Federal Ministry of Education, the university governing council and the institution’s management included 500 capacity Lecture Theatre hall, Mass Communication Studio, Three-in-one Laboratories, Faculty of Science, Faculty of Medical sciences, Pharmacy, classrooms and female and male hostels.
Soremekun appealed to the Federal Government not to relent in its efforts at funding tertiary institutions, especially FUOYE, saying, “Education is the bedrock of any meaningful development”.
A director and representative of the Federal Ministry of Education, Mr Abdullahi Saliu Jubri, who rated FUOYE first among the nine universities established by the Federal Government in 2011, said he was not surprised that the university clinched 14th position in rating carried out by the Nigeria Universities Commission.
A member of the institution’s Governing Council, Sabo Inuah, said that with the facilities on ground at the university, the institution and its students would complete favourably with their counterparts across the country and beyond.
Inuah said the council and the management of the university had established a benchmark that must be build upon to promote academic excellence and infrastructural development.
He charged the management of Nigerian universities to provide the necessary facilities and conducive academic environment to make Nigeria great.
Meanwhile, the external members of the Governing Council of FUOYE have lauded the management of the university led by Prof. Kayode Soremekun, over the ongoing infrastructural revolution at the university.
The External Council members led by Engr Sabo Inua, described the level of infrastructure growth and expansion in the university as unprecedented, compared with the realities on ground in universities established alongside FUOYE.
Speaking at the Mass Communication studios, which comprised Fuoye Radio and Television studios, Inua said, “What we have here is like what we have in Bayero University Kano and Express FM stations. I am highly impressed.”
