The Nigeria international gave his side the lead in the 51st minute finishing off a defence splitting pass with a delightful lob over Steve Mandanda who was in goal for Marseille.
The game was his 24th in the Ligue 1 this season.
Marseille however railled back through an own-goal from Reinildo Mandava and a brilliant strike from Dario
Benedetto to record a famous win at the Pierre Mauroy stadium.
The defeat leaves Lille fourth in the Ligue 1 standings with 40 points from 25 games while Marseille are second with 52 points from the same number of games.
Lille are away to Moses Simon’s Nantes in their next game on Sunday.
