No fewer than six schools in the Ibeju-Lekki area of Lagos State will benefit from the Information and Communication Centre that is under construction at the Community Primary School, Lakowe by Mixta Africa in partnership with Bunmi Adedayo Foundation.

The six benefiting schools are Community Primary School, Lakowe; Community Primary School, Abijo; Community Primary School, Ekutu; Community Primary School, Adeba; Roman Catholic Mission Primary School, Bogije and Roman Catholic Mission Primary School, Awoyaya.

Speaking during the site inspection of the facility, the Chairman of the BAF Board of Director, represented by the Director of Strategy, Mrs Yemisi Adedayo, said the partnership was premised on the fact that ICT was a tool that drives innovation.

She said, “In education, we need to be compliant to show that our children are ready for the future. On the basis of this, we have embarked on projects to ensure that the primary schools we are working with have access to ICT education.

“There are so many benefits of ICT education. One of them is that it gives children a vast array of resources to learn from and also improves their understanding ultimately. It helps to improve the quality of education. ICT also creates an enabling environment for collaboration and creativity.”

Adedayo added that exposing pupils to ICT would help to stimulate their understanding, their problem-solving skills and critical thinking ability as well.

“For the teachers, ICT can be a pedagogic tool because it can introduce a new framework for curriculum design. ICT should be integrative in learning, it should not be a standalone subject, the world that we are in currently is driven by technology and that is part of our everyday lives.

“ICT should be an integrative part of learning, pupils should experience ICT in each of their subjects. With the introduction of ICT in the primary schools, we hope that the proper adoption will lead to the integrative approach to learning and this will ultimately enrich the learners’ experience and also improve learning outcomes,” she said.

The Board Chairman of the Foundation said the foundation had trained up to 2,000 teachers and currently runs a 12-month continuous in-service training for public school teachers in the Lagos State.

The Managing Director of Mixta Nigeria, Mr Kola Ashiru-Balogun, represented by the Chief Financial Officer of the firm, Mr Oyeniyi Fakunle, said over 3,000 pupils would benefit from the ICT centre.

He thanked the Lagos State Ministry of education for supporting the initiative.
