Officials and pupils of Lagos Preparatory & Secondary School have welcomed back their athletes from the World School Games in Dubai, which ended on February 1.
LPSS, which competed at the event alongside 22 other schools from other parts of the world, claimed gold medals and bronze in a number of athletics and swimming competitions.
The football matches saw the girls’ team put up a fight for the top spot but came third in their group and second in their tier.
In their usual practice, the whole school community came out to welcome the athletes back to school on their return.
Stephen Sibthorpe, Head Teacher, LPSS, said, “This tradition is important partly because it boosts the confidence of the team but also because it encourages other students to aspire to be school ambassadors. The spirit of camaraderie is encouraged at LPSS, so our pupils become adults who identify positively and express loyalty to their primary environment.”
The school has begun preparations for the 2021 edition, through the school’s sports’ day, which will hold on February 13.
Director of Sports, LPSS, Yusuf Ojeyinka, said, “Our sports day is a chance for us to identify new talents, especially amongst pupils who may have joined the school recently.”
