As the crisis engulfing the Delta State FA deepens, members of the Edema Fuludu-led board are planning to run a parallel FA in the state if the Nigeria Football Federation goes ahead to conduct fresh elections into the state FA.
Two weeks ago, the NFF set up a normalisation committee to administer the affairs of the Delta State Football Association for the next three months, but Fuludu and his board members insist that they were lawfully elected into office in July 2019.
According to a letter signed by Joshua Onoja on behalf of the NFF General Secretary Mohammed Sanusi, which was addressed to the Delta FA on January 15, the committee is expected to put in place processes for elections into the councils and board of the Delta FA.
In a chat with our correspondent, one of the board members, who pleaded anonymity because he was not authorised to speak with the press, said the NFF was wrong to have termed the election which brought them into office as illegal.
“We will not allow the NFF to take away from us our legitimate election, if they conduct any election in the Delta State FA, we will run our own parallel FA. We will be having a meeting soon to take a stand on the matter,”
On his part, Fuludu alleged that top NFF officials were planning to remove him from office, but maintained his stand that the disputed July 2019 election brought him into office and followed all due process.
He said the move by the NFF was a ploy to stampede a “legitimately elected board out of office and install a new board.”
The former Super Eagles midfielder accused the NFF of trying to force him to step down so that another person could become chairman, calling it a “tyrannical and arm-twisting method.”
Reacting to Fuludu’s allegations, NFF President, said he had nothing against Fuludu as Chairman of the Delta FA.
The NFF boss also said there was no election that ushered in Fuludu as chairman.
