Nigeria’s Quadri Aruna qualified for the Round of 32 of the ongoing 2020 ITTF World Tour Platinum, German Open, after winning his Preliminary Round 3 and Round 4 matches.
Aruna, playing one of the most enthralling matches of the tournament, came from three sets down to defeat Finland’s Benedek Olah 4-3 at the 2020 ITTF German Open.
Olah ran to a three-set lead in just 19 minutes, overcoming the Nigerian 11-7, 11-5, 12-10.
Aruna however bounced back, winning the next three sets including the deciding seventh set to claim a 7-11, 5-11, 10-12, 11-6, 11-7, 11-8 victory, booking a place in the Preliminary Round 4.
In Round 4, Aruna again recovered from a 2-1 deficit to defeat Czech Republic’s Pavel Sirecek 11-3, 5-11, 9-11, 11-5, 11-8, 11-9, claiming a 4-2 victory.
He will play Timo Boll of Germany in the Round of 32 on Thursday (today).
Aruna is the only African left in the tournament.
