Students of the Izoro Polytechnic in the Isoko North Local Government Area of Delta State have protested the management’s ban on driving on the campus.
The students blocked the main entrance gate to the institution and the busy Ughelli/Asaba Expressway over the introduction of some new policies.
It was learnt that commuters plying the route were stranded for over four hours as the protest caused heavy gridlock on the road.
The management of the institution had introduced new policies, including the ban on students driving into the school.
The protest, our correspondent gathered, was led by officials of the Students’ Union Government and crippled academic activities in the school as well as economic activities in the host community.
The protesters asked the school management to urgently rescind the new policies, which they described as anti-students.
Reacting to the protest, the Rector of the institution, Prof. Job Akpodiete, said the decision to bar students from driving their vehicles and motorcycles on the school premises was to “prevent reckless driving” resulting in incessant accidents on the campus.
